Jamboree Overview

Exciting news! Registration is now open for the 2013 National Scout Jamboree that will be taking place July 15th – July 24th 2013 at the Summit Bechtel reserve in West Virginia. These dates do not include travel to and from the event.

What is Jamboree? This exciting event occurs only once every four years and brings together Scouts and Venturers from all over the United State and the world. This event is anticipated to be one of the largest in Scouting history with over 40,000 Scouts participating.

Who can go? The Scout qualifications can be found here on the National Jamboree website.

New for 2013! Venturers will be participating. See qualification requirements here.

We need leaders too!  The Last Frontier Council (“LFC”) is planning to send 4 troops of Scouts and 2 Venturing crews.  That’s room enough for 144 Scouts and 16 Venturers.  But that also means we need 12 adult leaders and 3 young adult leaders (ages 18-21) for the Scout troops, and 4 adult advisors for the Venturers.  Applications for leaders are being taken now and can be found here.

Why go? The 2013 event will be the first ever at the Summit Bechtel Reserve. This is Scouting’s newest high adventure base and the new permanent home to the National Scout Jamboree. Ask any Scout who has attended a Jamboree and he will tell you it is a true experience of a lifetime.

How does a Scout sign up? Registration is currently open through the Summit website. You’ll need your BSA registration number and a digital photo to sign up. With parent’s permission, Scouts can begin registration now and start exploring the many exciting options that will await them at the 2013 National Scout Jamboree.

How much will it cost? The Boy Scouts of America and the Last Frontier Council (LFC) has committed to doing everything possible to keep costs at a minimum so as to allow many youth to attend. Unlike previous Jamborees, all needed gear with the exception of the Scout’s personal gear will be provided.  Total cost for a LFC has not yet been fully determined and the Jamboree fee is estimated to be no more than $1,995. This price is about 30% less than the previous Jamboree.

2013 seems so far away why register now? There is no cost yet for registration. This is the best way for the Summit and the LFC to begin to planning. Registration now will also get you in the loop with the latest information and allow family planning time for the expense. Jamboree payments will begin in first quarter 2012.  That Last Frontier Council Jamboree committee is in the early stages of planning and will be sending out additional information soon.

Got questions? You can learn more LFC information by checking out the councilJamboree website, liking us on Facebook and following us on Twitter. This is your best source local for information. Also check out the Summit website for great videos and more.

Go Big! Get Wild! Join us in 2013 for the most exciting National Scout Jamboree ever!
