Frequently Asked Questions

As our plans develop new edits to this page will appear at the top.

Is There a Payment Plan?

The payment plan varies depending on the month a scout signs up.  He begins with a $100 deposit.  As of November 2008, a new signup would be paying $170 per month until the $2,995 jamboree fee is paid up.  Signups later will have a higher monthly payment since they must pay more in a shorter amount of time before the jamboree.  The council must pre pay for jamboree participants on a regular schedule.  Parents need to pay on a regular schedule.  Parents are encouraged to pay the full $2,995 or make more than the necessary monthly payment to complete your plan early.  The council payments to National are made in January 2009, July 2009 and January 2010.  These payments have to be made to allow contingent troops to attend.  These funds can only come from the fees paid by parents.  Late payments can endanger an entire troop from attending.

How do I sign up to go to the Jamboree?

Go to Scout Signup on this site for instructions.

Help I’m having trouble signing up!

National has a walkthrough document to assist parents signing up.  The online process may feel awkwardly designed.  Click here to download a guide to signup. (Microsoft Word document)

Can Parents Go?

The application / selection process for the 2010 jamboree leaders is completed.  Parents are invited to help as Jamboree Staff.  Read the Staff page for more information on how you can participate in the next Jamboree.

Are there any health restrictions that prevents me from going?

The Annual Health and Medical Record you fill out each year for you son’s local troop will be the Jamboree physical / health form.   Review this document  and page 17 of the Council Jamboree Guide for more information to see if your child has any restrictions that may prevent attendance.   Physical forms are usually due 6 months before the event in 2010.  The jamboree site is in Virginia at the end of July with hot and humid weather and lots of walking expected.

Other Sources of Jamboree Information

There are several online resources of information for scouts, parents, leaders and staffers.  The most popular sites include these links.  Most of these sites are unofficial.

The Council Jamboree Guide is the document from national your jamboree committee and leaders follow to plan for the jamboree.  Interested scouts and adults are welcome to review how we plan the thousand details of sending 3 troops of 36 scouts and 4 leaders and their gear across the USA.

A JamboLeader and JamboreeScouts email discussion list can be subscribed at: http://lists.usscouts.org/lc.asp The discussions can vary and the information is usually correct but not official.

Patches

Patch trading is a favorite activity for scouts at the Jamboree.  Each council develops custom council strips and OA lodge flaps just for the event.  These patches get swapped for others – much like baseball trading cards.  Before the jamboree, the jamboree committee will be taking orders for extra patches.  Discuss patch trading with your son to see what his interest level could be.  Many scouts arrive regretting they didn’t bring along enough patches to swap.

Whom can I contact if I have questions?

What subcamp will our jamboree troops be camping?

We will be in Subcamp 21 located in the central left area of  the 2010 Jamboree Map.

What items do scouts get for the trip?

Last Frontier Scouts get some goodies to take along.  Custom luggage is included in your jamboree fee.  These include a plastic trunk for luggage, a duffel bag and backpack.  This luggage is customized to keep the gear easy to sort and track during our travels.  When thousands of scouts are at airports, it’s easy to misplace luggage so you’ll get luggage to pack your personal items.

Some uniform items are included as well including:

1. Jamboree Neckerchief – 2 (one before and one after)
2.
National Jamboree hat – 1
3.
Jamboree Patch – 2 (one additional with their paid fee)
4.
Jamboree Nametag – 1
5.
Troop T-shirt – 3
6.
Council Service Patch – 3
7.
Jamboree Troop Numerals – 3
8.
Troop hat – 1
9.
Nalgene water bottle – 1
10.
Leadership patch (if applicable)
11.
Patrol Patches – 3

Additional custom council jamboree strips, lodge flaps (for Order of the Arrow members), hatpins and other possible accessories are available for purchase before the trip.  Orders will be taken in 2010.  These additional patches are what scouts trade at the jamboree.

What Scout uniform items do Scouts need to supply for the trip?

Three full Scout field uniforms are required for the trip.  The uniforms will be of the newest design introduced in 2008. (edit May 2009).  All official BSA uniforms are appropriate for the Jamboree.  These uniforms are the official BSA tan uniform shirt and green pants/shorts.   The epaulets/shoulder loops should be of the newer green style even if wearing a vintage uniform style.    The council Scout Shop has the older uniform design on sale at reduced prices.
